LEICESTER EVADING THE TRUTH - THE CRACKS BEGIN TO APPEAR
JUST RODENTS?
Ever since we exposed the construction project to build a new animal laboratory, the University of Leicester have been faced with difficult questions from the public, students, staff and press. In statements regarding the new animal testing facility, they claim the only species to be used will be "rats and mice". Ever since the campaign started, we have been constantly in touch with confidential sources who have informed us that this is a lie and infact guinea-pigs and rabbits will also be used. Unfortunately, to protect our sources, we are unable to publish further information at current on this.
LEICESTER & PRIMATE RESEARCH
Leicester have also denied any involvement in research on non-human primates, but the screenshot below was taken from their own website today which states "Non-human primate research is conducted in collaboration with the C.N.R.-ICST" in relation to the Department of Psychology. We can also reveal that staff on the pay-roll of Leicester conduct this research on primates at the laboratory above and others. It is also stated that "The University has never housed primates", which is a half-truth - primates are housed on campus, however in the Hodgkin Building, owned by the Medical Research Council where they are bred and sent to other university facilities across the UK.

BARK, BUT WE WON'T BITE!
The University of Leicester are also keen to avoid being associated with research on beagle dogs with the comments "there is no truth in allegations that the biomedical research facility houses - or will house - beagle dogs, or any dogs." Again, this is a merely avoiding the question of whether dogs are used in research by them. We have evidence that one university department, based in the Leicester Royal Infirmary, has recently used the canine model in experimentation. We also know that Leicester University paid staff have been involved in research on dogs at AstraZeneca (Alderley Edge) and Pfizer (Sandwich, Kent).

The University of Leicester's press statements are clearly based on evading the facts to save face in the public arena, so we call upon them to come out clean about what animals they and their staff are currently using in research and what species are planned to be used if the new facility is completed.
